Gamevasion 2020
Considering the first ever digital gamescom due to COVID-19, INSTINCT3 partnered with Germany’s leading gaming media houses Rocket Beans Entertainment and Freaks 4U Gaming to create a worthy replacement for the community. The Gamevasion offered a diverse mix of entertainment, wild gaming battles and substantial gamescom coverage broadcasted over 5 days across the Twitch channels of HandOfBlood, Trymacs, Rocket Beans, Rewinside and Maxim. INSTINCT3 was the facilitator, bringing the three companies to one table.
The Challenge
As a result of Covid-19, gamescom was happening exclusively through digital channels this year, with the German gaming-industry association publishing their planned program only three months before its start.
To support gamescom during the crisis, we planned on producing a diverse streaming program from studios in Hamburg and Spandau. A variety of gaming and entertainment should take place to offer maximum entertainment for gamers and gamescom fans alike. Besides the gamescom coverage, the alliance also offered white-label-productions for publishers and other interested parties.
The Idea
In addition to the well-known highlight formats “Good Morning gamescom”, “Prime Time gamescom”, “Hamburg VS. Spandau “and “Gamevasion Championships”, the program was made up of recurring Let’s Play elements, in which influencers would play either with or against each other. In addition, the Gamevasion crew threw “Spotlight On” new games or gaming equipment, and in the cooking show “Schmeckt”, guest host Mori looked after the audiences’ overall well-being. On Saturday evening, a round of pen & paper role playing took place, ensuring analog gaming isn’t overlooked.
The Result
The Gamevasion production, based in Hamburg as well as in Berlin, marks a milestone in the company histories of INSTINCT3, Rocket Beans TV and Freaks 4U Gaming. Around 80 hours of content were produced on 16 different sets. Approximately 200 employees were involved in the planning and realisation of the event. The managing directors and teams of the three companies were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic feedback from their communities and co-operation partners on the five-day long program and in the end the innovative collaboration has been a huge sucess.
At its peak, 41.780 live viewers followed the show on Rocket Beans TV, HandofBlood, Trymacs, Rewinside and Maxims’ channels. Up to this point, the Gamevasion reached 86.131.740 watched minutes across the livestreams and VODs on Twitch and YouTube.Seven million impressions were counted across the event on the Gamevasion social media channels as well as on their influencers’ social media channels.
An international jury honored the Gamevasion with the Amber Event Award in the category Best Live Stream 2020. “Gamevasion brought the offline gamescom feeling into the online communities and set new standards for digital gamescom reporting in terms of the concept, the results, and the fans,” stated the official reasoning for the award.
